Ray Kurzweil Reaction

To put the Ray Kurzweil video simply, it was very eye-opening. I know technology is really advanced and can do some amazing things, but I did not realize we were so close to such amazing breakthroughs. The whole idea of technology exponentially evolving was very interesting. New technologies catch on so much faster today and everyone is keeping up.

One thing I liked about his speech/lecture, was that he got right down to business. He immediately started addressing problems and then explained solutions for those problems. I lost him during some points he made, and at other times I just stared at the screen with a blank expression on my face because of how advanced things got. I was able to follow for the most part and was pretty amazed at some of the trends and how seemingly easy they were to track. It's amazing how the world is so random and "chaotic" as Kurzweil explained it, yet these trends are so predictable. Creating technologies with the technologies we already have was another interesting point he brought up. Creating the telegraph, then decades later the phone, then decades later, the cell phone, which only took about 8 years to really flourish.

One thing that scared me a little bit was the shrinking of technology. When he went into creating robot red blood cells that were like "super" blood cells, that really blew my mind. Thinking about combating virus', and all the other possiblities really blows my mind. The thing that scares me however is the human and animal testing which may be involved. Human testing with technologies this advanced have the potential to really mess a person up. If done safely and humanely though, these technologies will take mankind to a whole 'nother level.

www.knowyourmeme.com

http://www.knowyourmeme.com/ is a pretty funny site that documents internet phenomena, viral videos, image macros, catchphrases, web celebs and more. Memes are usually funny or odd pictures that have have catchphrases edited on. They usually relate to message boards (specifically http://www.4chan.com/ the /b/ board) where internet nerds congregate to talk about not getting laid, final fantasy, and other random crap. It's a very simple site to navigate and even if you have no idea what a meme is, it won't take long for you to get it. I wanted to write this paper at work last night, but spent most of my free time surfing through the site which led to even more surfing. If you're looking to kill some time, this is definitely a site you'll want to remember.
There's a lot to do on this website. You can troll for different memes, or you can head into the message boards and discuss and research with others. There are also some great shirts you can buy including the Rage Guy, who I personally don't think is that funny, but I can understand why it is. The video database is great and will go into full detail about a meme and are pretty awesome.
I enjoy internet memes until they get out of hand, then I really enjoy them. If you have a job which allows you to search the net for 3 hours a night like me, you get to know a lot of these memes. If you don't then check out http://www.knowyourmeme.com/. If you see a picture on the internet and your not sure why people think it's funny, knowyourmeme.com will show you why people think it is.
